Premium gladiators and the ultimate victory

The shiniest of statues will bring the strongest and mightiest of gladiators. Find out why these premium gladiators are worth saving you gems for and exactly how epic they are.

What premium really means

Shining bright and beautiful in the Gladiator Residence is the premium gladiator statues.

Buying these for gems allows you to hire not only a guaranteed 5 star rarity gladiator, but also gives you a legendary weapon for each weapon slot unlocked at the rank of gladiator hired.

This means the price of the statues will increase as the rank hired goes up.

The rank of a newly hired gladiator will be the average rank of your current gladiators. However, to ensure a new gladiator is a specific rank when hired, you need to have ALL your current gladiators already on that rank.

For instance, gladiators hired at rank one will only receive one legendary weapon, as that is the only weapon unlocked at that rank. Gladiators hired at rank five will consequently receive five legendary items when hired through a premium statue.

Make it worth your gems

It only makes sense that the very best statues providing the very best gladiators the most legendary weapons would cost a hefty amount of gems.

These statues will start at 800 gems and will increase according to the rank hired.

Although these statues are expensive, they’re much cheaper than multiple legendary chests that you can purchase with gems from The Merchant.

This means that getting a 5 star rarity gladiator AND legendary weapons, from a premium statue is much more cost effective.

Legendary items

Weapons and armour can drastically improve the statistics of your gladiator.

They significantly affect the attack, damage, defense, and armour stats of your gladiator which can greatly aid them in battle.

Greater damage and armour means improved combat tactics, particularly against mighty bosses that can absorb low damage or inflict high damage (as outlined in a previous blog post about the Wall).

The 5 stars that light the gladiator sky

The rarity of your gladiators is indicated by the number of stars they have in their profile with 5 stars being the rarest gladiators.

Rarity significantly affects the increase of statistics when levelling up your gladiators. The higher the rarity, the higher the increase in statistics will be each time you level up the gladiator.

As a result, if you compare two gladiators of the same class, level and rank, the gladiator with the highest rank will have much better statistics (and therefore have more power) than the lower rarity gladiator.

Saving for the best

In order to receive the very best gladiators from these premium statues, you will need to start saving your gems.

In order to get more gems to help your saving, you can try the following:

– Open the chests that appear around the world map. They always contain gems.

– Many missions award you with gems by default; most of the medium and high difficult missions do.

– Whenever you win a mission, you will have a chance of getting gems from the reward chests.

– Selling a gladiator will grant you half their original statue’s value in gems.

– Selling consumables affords you a small amount of gems per item sold.

– Get as far into the weekly events as possible. They often reward large amounts of gems.

– Increase your fame in multiplayer battles to become one of the winning clans at the end of the clan season. The winning clans always receive a large amount of gems (as we outlined in a previous blog post).

– You can also buy the gems by tapping the icon you will see in the upper-left corner of your screen.

So it’s time to start saving your gems, and get ready for the best way to get a fully-equipped 5-star gladiator in a matter of seconds!

How to defeat the formidable Black Mamba

She’s fast, feisty, and one of the biggest challenges in Gladiator Heroes. Creeping in the dust of level 69 she’ll be ready with her guards to defeat your gladiators in one simple flash.

She’s a mighty dual-wield gladiator with the speed and strike capable of destroying your team before they know what’s hit them.

With the right strategy and a carefully selected team, however, her and her dual defenders can be defeated. In this guide, we outline how you can use the Black Mamba’s tactics against them and wish the terrifying level 69 goodbye.

Choose your dream team

Dual-wield gladiators are the best class to send into combat with such a feisty opponent as they can use the Black Mamba’s speedy strikes against them.

It helps if they also possess the skill “dodge” as it makes it less likely that the Black Mamba’s quick attacks will make contact.

Using “additional attack” skills will also be beneficial as it will inflict more damage and reduce the opportunity for defense of the enemy.

Using one sword and shield gladiator with the skills “provoke” and “block” can also be extremely strategic.

This gladiator will draw the Black Mamba and her guards towards him which will give your allies the perfect opportunity to strike the enemy from behind when they least expect it.

Passive skills can also make or break your battle success with the Black Mamba. Due to the sneaky attacks of the dual-wields, skills such as “back protection” and “conditions resistance” can be crucial to reduce the fatality of the bleed condition and speed of the enemy’s attack.

It’s not recommended to use the tactical spearmen when against the Black Mamba because she herself is immune to most conditions.

It is also not recommended to use two-hands gladiators as despite being hulking beasts, their slow movement will be no match for the ninja-like Black Mamba and her allies.

Position yourself wisely

The starting position of your gladiators can be imperative for your combat success.

Ensure your gladiator’s positions are always far away from the dual-wield enemy with their backs against the wall to protect them from the quick back attacks quickly given by the opponent.

If your gladiators are positioned far away from the enemy, it will take them longer to reach you and therefore will need more than one move to attack you due to using their points for movement.

If at first you don’t succeed…

The best way to defeat the Black Mamba is to simply try and try again. She is one of the toughest opponents to beat in the game however with significant practise, she can be beaten.

So it’s time to train and level your gladiators in order to make them as strong as possible to destroy the mighty and feisty Black Mamba. Good luck Lanistae!

Everything you need to know about clan season rewards

We take a closer look at how the end-of-season awards are divided up between clan members.

It’s the end of our inaugural clan season and our top five teams are reaping the rewards of a hard-fought month.

But how are the gems divided up between the winning clan members? If you’re in one of the top five clans, you may have noticed that the prize difference between members can be in the thousands.

In this post, we look at this in detail; how and why the huge end-of-season rewards are divided.

They say knowledge is power, so arm yourself with information and fight for the biggest rewards this season!

It all comes down to percentages

When you join a clan, a certain percentage of your fame is accredited to the clan’s overall fame, depending on where you are in relation to other members.

If you fall within the top ten clans members, you’ll contribute a larger amount of fame than the second group of ten members; and so on, and so forth. Here’s the breakdown:

  • Members 1 – 10: 50% fame
  • Members 11 – 20: 30% fame
  • Members 21 – 3: 15% fame
  • Members 31- 40: 10% fame
  • Members 41 – 50: 3% fame

The prizes are divided up similarly. While not an exact match, the percentage of each total prize that each member wins is related to the amount of fame that they contribute to the clan.

So, the top 10 players will receive an even share of just over 40 per cent of the total prize. The bottom 10, or players 41 – 50, will receive just over four per cent.

How to reap the best rewards

So, where to from here lanistae? If you want to win the best rewards at the end of the next clan season, there are a few strategies you can try.

First of all, you’re going to want to get into one of the top clans. These clans will have a minimum fame level to enter, so you should aim for at least 31,000; the base level for the highest rank of God II.

Since all players’ fame resets at the beginning of each season, you’ll begin on an even playing field with the rest of your clan mates.

Fame is gained from multiplayer battles, so play as many of these as you can. Once your gladiators start gaining more XP and better armour and weapons, you can even choose to fight at a higher level and benefit from bigger fame.

You should also make sure that your defense team are always at full health and strategically selected and placed depending on the arena.

By focusing on gaining more fame, you’re not only suring up your shot at a bigger prize; you’re also helping your clan to move up the ranks. A bit of friendly competition against your clan mates can give you an edge where it really matters.

Why conditions skills could be your key to victory

Skills that inflict conditions on the enemy can be vital for combat success. Read on for how conditions work and how you can use them to your strategic advantage to achieve the ultimate victory.

Where it all begins: attack vs defense

While in combat, your gladiator’s statistics are one of the most important factors, as they will determine whether they hit or miss their attacks, and how much damage they inflict.

Your attack and defense values represent the offensive and defensive capacity of your gladiator. When trying to hit an opponent with an attack, your gladiator’s “attack” value is rolled against your opponent’s “defense” value in order to determine the outcome.

This can cause one of three things to happen:

  1. Hit: Your attack succeeds! You manage to hit your opponent, causing them damage.
  2. Block: Your opponent manages to block your attack, so it deals no damage.
  3. Counterattack: Your opponent is so successful with their defense that they earn a counterattack, which can also hit or be blocked, but never counter-counterattacked.

Damage vs Armour

Your damage and armour values values represent how capable your gladiators are to deal damage or defend themselves against incoming attacks.

Every time your attack hits, your gladiator’s “damage” value is rolled against the opponent’s “armour” value. Depending on the outcome of this roll, the gladiator that has been hit will receive varying amounts of damage.

Attack, damage, defense and armour are vital in the strategy of using conditions.

Conditions and Strategy

Armour break increases your gladiator’s damage statistics by up to 30%. This can be extremely useful against big bosses such as the Wall or the Undertaker. Often it seems that they “absorb” any attack you inflict on them. Using armour break can help improve this issue.

Poisoning causes the enemy to have their statistics reduced by around 30% (excluding movement). This means that opponents are less likely to defend and attack successfully.

Whilst this condition is useful against all classes, against big bosses it can reduce their likelihood of achieving successful attack or defense against you.

Combine this with armour break and there is a much higher chance of finally defeating the mighty bosses that stand in your way.

Crippling almost halves the the movement of the opponent. Using this skill against Two-Hands gladiators can be particularly helpful as due to their low movement, it causes them to be grounded and more susceptible to quick attacks.

Blinding the opponent means they have reduced attack. This means they are easier to hit and find it more challenging to attack your gladiators. Exploit this skill against Dual Wield gladiators as you can reduce their advantage of high attack.

Making your opponent bleed means their health will reduce by around 10% per turn which can be particularly useful against gladiators with high health such as Two-Hands gladiators.

Stunning the enemy renders the opposing gladiator unable to perform any actions until awoken. It either takes a few turns to be awoken from a stun, or until the gladiator is attacked again.

Strategic stunning can help focus your attack on particular gladiators. This is particularly useful when using Spearman who stun the furthest gladiators away whilst they focus on the closest opponents.

Taking full advantage of conditioning can be the deciding factor of whether you beat the mighty beasts or fly through those event rounds. It’s time to train your gladiators, exploit that “conditions resistance” passive and defeat your enemy.

The arrival of the long-awaited Clans update

Grab your friends, show off your flags, and fight for victory – the clan system is finally here.

Where it all begins

All the excitement from clans starts from the Clan Building. Unlock this key to your empire once your Headquarters reaches level five and the fun can really begin.

Once you open the Clan Building you’ll see a list of all the available clans organised first by those set in your language, and followed by those set in English.

Follow the leader

Clans can be joined straight away if they are set to public by the clan’s creator.

However, it must be noted that you can only be part of one clan at a time and there is a maximum of fifty lanistae members in each clan. If you do not like your clan anymore, you can leave at any time.

If the clan creator sets their clan to private, you will need approval from the clan’s leader in order to join.

The clan leader also has the ability to promote clan members to the “general” position, which means they can also accept lanistae requests to be part of their epic clan.

Clan creation

Want to create your very own clan, be in charge of its members, and show off your own very own clan flag?

The process is simple. Through the Clan Building click the “create” button and you’re away.

Decide whether you want your clan to be public or private, and whether you want only the best lanistae to join your team by setting a minimum fame level.

Once created, not only can lanistae search for your clan name through the Clan Building, but you can also share your clan code with friends outside the game so they can be part of your epic team of heroes.

Chat with your clan mates through the in-app clan chat found on the bottom left of the city’s screen and you can share strategies, show off your heroes, and make friends.

Wave your flag

When creating your clan, you choose your legendary clan name and create your flag to flaunt your team’s brand. Explore a wide selection of patterns, logos, shapes, and colours for your flag and go crazy with your masterpiece.

Once you join or create a clan, your clan’s flag will not only fly high above the Clan Building, but will also be shown off at the entrance to your city, as well as in the League of Clans.

The League of Clans

As we outlined in a previous blog, there will be several changes to fame as you know it.

Once you join a clan, your fame will be combined with the other clan members to create your clan fame, which will change every “season”.

This fame will dictate which league you will be in in the League of Clans, and will govern whether you win an incredible sum of gems at the end of the season.

Only the greatest clans will win the biggest gem prizes by the end of the season, so tell your friends, raise your flags, and prepare to battle for the ultimate glory in the brand new clan system.

Using order of initiative in your ultimate combat strategy

From lightning-speed assassins to delayed defenders, we explore everything that affects the order of initiative, and how you can incorporate it to create the ultimate strategy.

Movement + (attack – armour) = initiative

Your gladiator’s statistics are influenced by a wide range of factors. In terms of initiative, your gladiators’ movement stats are the most important factor.

This means that if your gladiators are all the same level and rank, the class with the highest movement stats will move first.

The different classes’ movement stats are as follows:

  • Dual-Wields: 4
  • Sword and Shield: 3
  • Spearman: 3
  • Two-Hands: 2

It’s not all face value

Looking at the movement stats above, we can see that the Dual-Wield gladiator will always move faster and further than the Two-Hands gladiator, for instance, and these movement statistics will never change, whether your gladiator is a higher level or not.

However, if your gladiators are in different levels and ranks, their attack statistics will also contribute to their initiative.

Let’s compare two Sword and Shield gladiators; the gladiator with the higher attack (minus armour) will have more initiative and therefore move first.

If, however, you have a Dual-Wield gladiator at rank 2 and a Sword and Shield gladiator at rank 5, it could be that the Sword and Shield attack points are that much higher than the Dual’s. In this case, this will outweigh the Dual’s higher movement points.

This would then cause the Sword and Shield gladiator to have higher initiative, and therefore move before the Dual.

Taking armour into account

Armour can also play a significant role in the initiative of gladiators. The armour statistic of your gladiators will be removed from the attack statistic.

Let’s say you have 2 Dual Wield gladiators at the same rank and level, however one has more armour, and therefore a higher armour statistic than the other. Whilst this may increase their attack statistic slightly, it will reduce its movement statistic overall compared to the other Dual.

Implement initiative in your combat strategy

Taking advantage of the order of initiative in combat can give you an incredible strategic advantage in your battles, so here are a few things to bare in mind in order to get closer to the ultimate victory.

Initial placement could make or break your combat success

Dual-Wield gladiators will often be the fastest gladiators in combat. If your opponent is using other gladiator classes, try placing your Duals so that they are close enough to reach the enemy, whilst the enemy is too far to reach them.

This will mean your Dual will be able to make the first attack and potentially retreat to danger without being damaged first.

It also helps if you put your Duals directly in front of your Two-Hands gladiators as their speed will make up for the Two-Hands’ slow start.

Take full advantage of your gladiator’s skills to exploit movement

If your Two-Hands gladiators have jump skills such as Jump Area Attack, Stun Jump, or Jump Shockwave, try placing them further away from the enemy.

This can be beneficial as they can jump to reach the enemy whilst implementing an attack.
This can significantly make up for their low movement points and reduces time wasted for the gladiator to move towards the enemy.

If your HQ is past level 11 and you’ve already hired a mighty Spearman, they can be extremely tactical to use against slower gladiators. With their spear throwing skills, they can exploit movement points and attack the enemy without having to move anywhere at all.

Taking full advantage of your gladiator’s skills and movement can be the deciding reason whether your team of fighters fights their way to the ultimate glory, or ultimately dies trying.

How to beat the Undertaker in Gladiator Heroes

He’s big, bad, and notoriously hard to beat; lurking in level 61 and ready to send your gladiators on a one way trip to the infirmary.

He’s the Undertaker, and he’s shaped up to become one of the toughest opponents to beat in Gladiator Heroes.

But, with the right gladiators and the right tactics, he can still be overcome. In this guide, we outline how you can send the Undertaker back to the underworld, once and for all.

Start with your gladiators

Sword and shield gladiators are the best class to send into battle against such a strong opponent, as they are defensively the strongest fighters and the only ones capable of clocking back attacks. It also helps if they’re equipped with the block skill, armour increase, back protection and anger (regain 25% health on ally death).

If your HQ is past level 11 and you’ve already gained your first spear gladiator, he’s also a useful tactician to put into battle. A serial hit-and-run artist, the lancer will attack from afar before retreating from the arc of the Undertaker’s blow. The stopping or stun throw are particularly strong skills that’ll help your other sword and shield fighter get an edge over this brutish beast.

It’s all in the positioning

As you’ve probably learnt by now, tactical positioning is the secret to bringing down even the highest-powered opponent.

While the ‘standard’ order of initiative is usually dual weapons; spear; sword and shield; two hands, due to his high level of attack, the Undertaker always moves first. So, to make sure you’re the first one to attack, place your gladiators at the opposite end of the arena. The Undertaker will spend his first move approaching your fighters, meaning that you’ll be able to deal the first blow.

However, be careful not to place them too far away; otherwise you’ll also waste your first turn moving towards the opponent. Strike the right balance; about halfway between the back wall and the centre line, and close to the side walls. If you place two gladiators on one side and another on the other, it’s more likely that you’ll get a good few back attacks in, too.

A higher power

It goes without saying that you should make sure your fighting gladiators are fully trained before going into combat. Remember, you won’t need to spend resources on training your gladiators if they all fight at least once a day; this will refresh their training and they won’t lose any bars.

All in all, you should aim for a combined power of over 2,000 to take on the Undertaker, with at least one of your gladiators in rank 3. To quickly promote your gladiators, it’s all about finding a map mission that strikes the perfect balance between high XP and low health loss.

You should be aiming for a minimum of 100 XP per combat, and as little loss of health as possible. It’s worth noting, however, that your health is automatically returned to 100% once you level up, so try to push your gladiators as far as you can to keep them, and your resources, out of the infirmary.

If at first you don’t succeed…

And finally: try, try, try again. Single-opponent levels, such as the Undertaker, Winter Beast and God’s Hunter, are notoriously challenging moments in the game which will force you to farm for XP and fight for better weapons.

But, with enough training, dedication, and a lot of trial and error, you’ll send the Undertaker to meet Pluto in the Underworld.

What to do before contacting Gladiator Heroes user support

Not sure how to play the game? Or maybe you’re being affected by a bug? Following the global launch, our support team have been inundated with thousands of daily messages. So, if you don’t want to wait, here’s what to do to solve your problem as soon as possible.

Q: I don’t understand part of the game.

A: Want to know how to level up your gladiators, how skills work, or how to get more resources? We’ve got all of that information and more in our Wiki and in our FAQs. If you still can’t find the answer to your question, try asking other players in our Facebook group here. If all else fails, then get in touch with us via Facebook message.

Q: I made a purchase in the game but never received it.

A: In very few cases the server takes a little while to credit your purchase. If, after a few hours, you still haven’t received your items, please contact user support via the form in the game, making sure you attach a copy of your receipt. Following the global launch, the user support team has been inundated with thousands of general enquiries, but are prioritising purchase enquiries above these. However, it may still take a few days for them to respond to your message, check the game data and restore your purchase. Please wait for a reply from the support team in this case, and don’t send additional follow-up messages to the Facebook page or email. Thank you for your patience!

Q: I closed the game during the forge tutorial and now I’ve lost my forge.

A: If you close the game during a tutorial, it won’t save your progress and will assume you haven’t reached the tutorial, reset, and force you to do it again. It’s very important that you do not close the game during the forge tutorial and follow it until the end. When you enter the forge tutorial, the game will automatically ‘gift’ you five new weapons; one to forge, and four to forge it with. You will NOT lose your own weapons through this tutorial, so please don’t try to exit the game.

If the forge doesn’t provide you with these five weapons to forge, you need to go to your armoury and sell all the scrap. Once your armoury is free of scrap, you can re-enter the forge tutorial and continue the game.

Q: The ‘Games of Glory’ video is repeating over and over again. How can I make it stop?

A: This is a small bug we’ve found to be affecting about 0.02% of players. We believe it is actually a connectivity error, where your device cannot maintain a strong enough internet connection to save game data to the server. While we are working on a solution for this issue, here are a few things you can try:

  • Find a stronger, more reliable internet connection to get through this tutorial so that the game can save to the server
  • Turn on your device’s flight mode then open the game. Turn off flight mode while in the game.
  • Turn off your game’s internet connection and continue playing offline while we work to resolve the issue. You will not be able to access multiplayer offline.
  • Making sure you’re connected via Facebook, delete and reinstall the game. You shouldn’t lose any progress.

Q: My game is lagging or freezing in loading pages.

A: Please make sure you have the current version (1.7.3) installed. It includes many performance improvements. Otherwise, make sure you have enough memory on your device and close background apps.

Q: I’m experiencing another sort of bug/issue.

A: Make sure you have the latest version (1.7.3) installed. Close the app completely, and restart your device. If the problem persists, contact the game support team via the in-game app. As they are currently inundated by thousands of messages per day, please expect a wait of three to four days for a response. Thanks for your patience!

Q: I want to reset my game and start from the beginning.

A: We currently don’t offer the option to reset games to the beginning, as this could corrupt your data in future games. We will be happy to give you tips on how to improve your game if you’re not happy with it, however.

Q: There are hackers at the top of the game rankings.

A: Build a game, and the hackers will come. We’re aware of these suspicious accounts and will be setting aside one day per week to remove them. Keep in mind that account termination takes a bit of time – not only do we have to locate the accounts, we then have to verify that they are illegitimate, and take steps to block them in future. The ranking data then takes anywhere from a few hours to a day to refresh worldwide.

Q: What is ‘value’ building?

A: This is a small text error affecting a few players at this time. Value refers to the training ground corresponding to your gladiator (i.e. sword and shield training ground, two-hands training ground).

Q: How do I get stone if I can’t build a quarry yet?

A: Even if you can’t build the quarry, there are still a few options for you to get stone.

  • Starting at mission 38 in the world map, you will earn stone whenever you finish a mission.
  • If your fame level is high enough, the map challenges that you can find alongside missions will also reward you with stone.
  • You will earn stone by levelling up your city.
  • You can always buy the resources you need with gems.

It’s recommended that you prioritise upgrading the Caravan in order to access mission 38 and further.

Q: How can I get gems without paying for them?

A: Yes, yes – there’s the option to buy gems in the game for those who want to pay. But, we’ve endeavoured to make a game that can still be played without having to spend any ‘real world’ money. Every few hours the chests on the map, full of free gems, are refreshed. Make sure you scour the whole map for chests – even areas that you haven’t yet conquered! You can also get gems from chests post-battle – just make sure you watch the video advertising to get more keys. You’ll also receive larger amounts of gems as a reward when you update your city, or by exchanging tokens for chests in the merchant.
